When checking your gold, be on the lookout for some of the following markings. You may need a loupe to look for the markings as some of them will be small or worn due to use, but they will be helpful when separating your jewelry into piles.
K = Karat KP = Karat Plumb (exact amount of gold) K.P. = Karat Plate GF = Gold Filled HGE = Heavy Gold Electroplate .417 = 10K .583 (.585) = 14K .750 = 18K 925 (.925) = Sterling Irid. Plat. = Platinum Pt 900 = Platinum Pt 950 - Platinum PLAT = Platinum
